The bridge connecting Newport, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio is a regional attraction and a historic landmark. It has a huge role in improving the economic development and quality of life on both sides of the Ohio River. Since the 2000s, the Purple People Bridge company has operated the “Purple People Bridge” as a recreational trail that connects people from both sides of the Ohio River.

Embark on the Best of Cincinnati Walking Tour featuring the Purple People Bridge!

What to Know

Purple People Bridge is entirely a pedestrian-only bridge that stretches 2670 feet over the Ohio River. Enjoy a nice dinner in any restaurant in the city of Newport and then head over to this bridge. It is a great place for relaxing and going for a scenic walk. You can walk from one state to another, watch the picturesque city skyline, and read about the bridge’s history as one of the railroad bridges on the plaques. On the side of the river, some of the areas including downstream decks are open and are used for special events. The bridge connects Cincinnati’s people and is perfect for entertainment, dining, festivals, nightlife, parks, and much more.

How to Get There

The Purple People Bridge crosses from the south bank of Cincinnati, Ohio to the north bank of Newport, Kentucky. You can get to this Bridge via a streetcar or with your car. The streetcar is a great option and is available 24/7. For your private car, you can find parking lots along Pete Rose Way/US 52 or on-street in downtown Cincinnati. And there are several paid lots in Newport on the Levee or you can park on the metered spaces on Riverboat Row in Newport.

Another great way to see this bridge is by booking a Cincinnati Tour which features this attraction. The Best of Cincinnati Walking Tour is our top recommendation.
